What inspired you to enter your profession?
A A couple of years ago I cherished a very powerful dream. A dream to work in a 100 percent wireless and paperless office within the world’s best digital agency. Entering this field of social media, I knew was a sure fire way to move every inch closer to my dream. Besides, social media is my passion so I turned that passion into my profession.
I started my career as an advertising copywriter in a boutique ad agency in Dubai. I also had a stint as Managing Editor of a very popular web portal in UAE. It is during my stint at Top 5 that I had my first brush with digital media and decided that this is the path I need to take.
What apps/software/tools can’t you live without?
A I use Awesome Screenshot most of the time. It is a tool that has become indispensible for my daily activity. There are gazillion other apps that have made life easier for me and the most notable among them are – Evernote, Flipboard, Yesware, Wisestamp, Photogrid, Pocket, Skydrive, Dropbox, Zite and a few others.
What’s your best time-saving shortcut productivity tip?
AProcrastination is the thief of time. If you want to do something just go ahead and do it NOW. Don’t wait for tomorrow. There isn’t a better tip from me for saving time.
What everyday thing do you think are you better at than anybody else?
A I wouldn’t want to think or compare and say that I am better at doing something than anyone else. I could say I am excellent at multitasking and building relationships, but there is always someone better than me. Life is a big lesson and we are all learning.
What are you currently reading?
A Well my work has kept me extremely busy and I hardly find the time to read except for the daily morning dose of headlines on my phablet while commuting on the metro.
The last best book I’ve read is an eBook by French author Cendrine Marrouat titled The Little Big eBook on Social Media Audiences: Build Yours, Keep It, and Win. It was a brilliant read and it really changed the way I look at this field of social media.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
A “Speech is silver, but silence is golden.” There is profound truth in that. As I grew up, I learnt to speak less and listen more, and it made all the difference
What’s your greatest challenge?
A To keep pace with all the rapid changes in the field of social media and digital technology. Social media is changing every hour, every minute, every second. So are the tools of the trade. What we knew yesterday is obsolete today.
To stay abreast of all these lightening paced changes are a challenge and I try my best to constantly learn and unlearn. It is equally important to ‘unlearn’ as it is, to learn. That is the only way to move ahead.
What’s your greatest achievement?
A Though I switched fields from advertising to digital media my passion for the mad ad world remained within. This led me to create a Facebook community, to keep the passion alive, and to stay abreast of the happenings in the ad world.
I am glad to say that the Page has crossed 53,000 fans with an extremely high engagement rate and all this without a single dollar investment on promotions or ads. My page, Mind Blowing Resources, has helped me network with some of the brightest minds in the ad industry from across the planet. I have also built a huge contact list of the who’s who of the industry. This I feel is my greatest achievement in social media.
Anything else you want to add?
A It has been great interacting with you and answering these questions and I thank you for the opportunity.
I like your readers to consider the words of Khalil Gibran – “Be not content with little. He who brings to the springs of life an empty jar, will return with two full ones.” These beautiful words were inscribed on my autograph book by my high school French teacher. I must say that these words made all the difference in my life. I keep striving, I keep pushing myself to the max, and I will not rest until I get where I want to go.
Who would you like to see answer these same questions?
AAnjlee Bhat is one name that comes to mind. She is brilliant and has been an inspiration to me and I’ve also learnt a lot of social media best practices from her.
